Visiting from Indiana, this was my first time visiting the panhandle of FL and my husband’s friend, Mike, highly recommended fishing St. Joseph Bay. Mike, my husband, Wade, and I booked our fishing charter with Dan a few months in advance; Mike and his dad have gone fishing with Dan multiple times and told us he’s great. They were right. Right off the bat you can tell that Dan is respectful not only of his fellow fishermen but also of his boat and his gear. He is friendly, professional, and provided helpful guidance and honest feedback regarding fishing technique. These were the biggest fish I have caught in my life (I’m used to smaller freshwater lake fish) so I needed a bit more guidance managing the pole and tension on the line versus simply reeling it in. Mike, Wade, and I caught numerous fish during out time out on the bay including: speckled trout, ladyfish, redfish, bluefish, bonnethead shark, croaker, catfish, needlefish, Atlantic sharpnose shark, and blacktip shark. All morning! Capt. Dan couldn’t get us to his honey holes safely and I appreciate him not risking it with my gals aboard. So we did find a few places we could fish out of the wind and waves and wound up having a blast with the sharks and a school of bull reds. The girls were worn out by the end of the trip from all the shark action. We fished around a shrimp boat that was taking shelter from the pounding.
